The Aqua Sparsh approach
Understand the condition first, choose the right process second, and protect the finish with realistic maintenance.
Why Hyderabad Roads Are Hard on Car Paint
Your car left the showroom with roughly 40 to 50 microns of clear coat over its colour. That thin layer is all that stands between the paint and everything this city throws at it: stone chips flung up at speed on the ORR, cement dust along the metro and flyover corridors, 43 degree summer sun, acidic monsoon rain, and bird droppings that etch within hours.
Wax buys you a few weeks. Ceramic coating buys you a hard, chemically bonded layer that resists chemicals and UV. Neither of them stops a stone. Paint protection film does.
What is Paint Protection Film (PPF)?
PPF is a transparent thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) film, usually 150 to 200 microns thick, applied over your car's factory paint. It is not vinyl and it is not a sticker. TPU is elastic, so when a stone hits it, the film absorbs and spreads that energy sideways instead of transferring it into the clear coat.
A quality film is built in three layers: an adhesive layer that bonds to paint and releases cleanly years later, the TPU core that takes the impact, and a self-healing top coat.
Self-healing is the part most owners find hard to believe. Light swirls and fine scratches in the top layer re-flow and vanish when the film is warmed by sunlight, a hot water rinse, or a heat gun in the studio. Cuts deep enough to go through that top coat will stay.
Film comes in gloss (effectively invisible, keeps the factory look), matte or satin (converts a gloss car to matte and protects it at the same time), and coloured or colour-shift film that changes the car's appearance without a drop of paint touching it.
PPF vs Ceramic Coating vs Wax
| Feature | Wax | Ceramic Coating | PPF |
|---|---|---|---|
| Durability | 1 to 3 months | 2 to 5 years | 5 to 10 years |
| Stone chip protection | None | None | Yes |
| Scratch resistance | None | Minor swirls only | Self-healing top coat |
| UV and fade protection | Basic | Strong | Strong |
| Chemical resistance | Low | High | High |
| Thickness added | Negligible | 1 to 3 microns | 150 to 200 microns |
| Removal | Washes off | Needs polishing | Peels off cleanly |
| Cost | Low | Medium | High |
Our recommendation: PPF and ceramic coating are not competitors. Film on the impact zones, coating over the film and the remaining panels. The film handles physical damage, the coating handles gloss and easy cleaning.

What PPF Protects Against
PPF handles: stone chips and road debris, bug splatter and bird droppings that etch clear coat, tree sap, light key and bag scuffs, swirl marks from bad wash technique, UV fade, and minor parking scrapes at bumper corners and door cups.
PPF does not handle: dents, deliberate deep key damage that cuts through the film, rust, glass, wheels, or damage already in the paint. Film is transparent, so it seals in whatever is underneath. Correction has to happen first.
One honest point most studios skip: on complex panels there will be a visible edge line in some places. A good installer hides it by wrapping film into panel gaps and behind trims. Anyone promising a completely invisible edge on every panel of every car is overselling.
Coverage Options: How Much of the Car to Wrap
Partial front. Bumper, half the bonnet, half the fenders, mirrors. The minimum option, but it leaves a horizontal line across the bonnet that becomes obvious as protected and unprotected paint age differently.
Full front. Full bonnet, full fenders, full bumper, mirrors and headlights. The most common choice. Covers the entire stone chip zone with no line across the bonnet.
Full front plus high impact. Adds A-pillars, roof leading edge, door cups, rear wheel arches and the boot loading lip. These pick up damage from fingernails, luggage and gravel thrown by your own tyres.
Full body. Every painted panel. The right call for new cars, matte conversions, and anyone planning to sell in three to five years with the paint underneath untouched.
How PPF is Installed at Aqua Sparsh
The finish depends far more on preparation than on the film itself.
- Inspection and paint reading. We measure paint depth, identify repainted panels or existing damage, and agree what gets corrected before film goes on.
- Deep decontamination. Wash, iron and tar removal, clay treatment. Any contaminant left behind becomes a permanent bump under the film.
- Paint correction. Machine polishing to remove swirls and light scratches. Film is clear, so whatever is under it is locked in for years.
- Panel preparation. Badges, lights and some trims come off so edges can be wrapped properly instead of trimmed short.
- Application. Plotter-cut patterns for accuracy, hand trimming where a pattern does not exist or does not fit.
- Edge tucking. Every edge is tucked into the panel gap so it stays sealed against water and wash pressure.
- Curing. The car stays indoors for 24 to 48 hours. The adhesive continues bonding for about seven days.
Typical turnaround is 1 to 2 days for a full front and 4 to 7 days for full body.
How Long PPF Lasts
A good film lasts 5 to 10 years in Hyderabad conditions. The variables are film grade, whether the car parks covered or open, and wash habits.
Yellowing used to be the standard complaint about PPF, and it was a real problem with older PVC-based films. Modern TPU film with UV inhibitors resists it. Cheap film still yellows, cracks and lifts at the edges within two to three years under this sun, which is the most common reason people end up doing the job twice.
Quality film carries a manufacturer warranty against yellowing, cracking and delamination. Ask any studio for the warranty term on the specific film they are proposing, and whether it covers a re-wrap or only the material.
Aftercare: Keeping PPF Looking New
Wait 7 days after installation before the first wash.
Keep pressure washer nozzles at least 30 cm away and angled along the panel, never straight into a film edge.
Avoid brush-type tunnel washes. Rotating bristles catch and lift film edges.
Remove bird droppings, bug residue and tree sap within 24 hours. Film buys you time, not immunity.
A ceramic coating applied over the film makes washing easier and keeps gloss consistent across coated and filmed panels.
Have the edges inspected once a year. A lifting edge caught early is a five minute fix.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is PPF worth it in Hyderabad? If you drive highway or ORR distances regularly, park in the open, or own a car where a repaint is a serious problem, yes. The stone chip issue here is not occasional, it is constant.
Does PPF damage the paint when removed? No, when it is quality film removed correctly. TPU film is designed to release cleanly with controlled heat. The risk exists on repainted panels and on cheap film left long past its life, which is why we check paint depth before installation.
Can PPF be applied to an older car? Yes, but the paint has to be corrected first. Film seals in existing swirls, chips and oxidation exactly as they are. On a car with heavy damage, the correction work can take as long as the film installation itself.
PPF or ceramic coating: which comes first? If your concern is stone chips and physical damage, PPF. If your concern is gloss, easy cleaning and water spot resistance, ceramic coating. If you can only do one now, protect the front end first, then coat the whole car later.
How long does the car stay at the studio? 1 to 2 days for a full front, 4 to 7 days for full body. The car is stored indoors throughout and is not driven out until the film has cured.
Can a single damaged panel be replaced? Yes. Film is applied panel by panel, so a damaged bumper can be stripped and re-wrapped without touching the rest of the car.
